Economic Empowerment

In a bid to improve on the economic livelihood and employment opportunities in communities, the organization has embarked on the Promotion of self-help groups; for example Village, Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA’s), equip children with contemporary vocational, non-formal job and employment skills in tailoring, Craft making, knitting, and tailoring which is conducted at the skilling center; Helping them to start small scale income-generating activities such as (piggery, poultry, peasant farming), and conduct financial literacy. This approach looks at teaching people how to fish than giving them actual fish; hence helping to improve their sustainability ratio, cater to their family needs, and boost their startup capital.

Improving the welfare of the family – a child cannot go to school and study well when the family especially the immediate caregiver is not healthy and empowered; the family needs decent livelihood opportunities and sources of income.

On realizing this, for better child’s education, Shines Children’s Foundation has adopted an intensive programs approach focused on family health, livelihood, and community engagement in empowerment programs that address the needs of needy children and their families.

Vocational Skills Development

Approximately 60% of the orphaned youth who don’t make it to school, have always remained hopeless in communities, which at the end they become drug addicts, young mothers, child-headed boys, and in many cases affected and infected with HIV/AIDs, so to mitigate this, we came up with an initiative to skill them in vocational skills.

In carpentry, tailoring, computer study, weaving, and Mechanics all are aimed at providing youth skills to be Job creators rather than Job seekers.
